A border practice, for a border county
We are in Laredo, on the Rio Grande. San Diego sits on the other end of the same border, and a good deal of what shapes family life there is familiar to us: households that run in two languages, relatives on both sides of a line, and school and medical records that do not all come from one country.
In an ADHD evaluation that history matters, because a diagnosis depends on showing the pattern goes back to childhood. If those years happened in Tijuana, in a different school system, in Spanish, we can work with that. It is not an exception here; it is most of what we do.
For Navy and Marine Corps families
San Diego County holds one of the largest military populations in the country, and service life complicates an evaluation in particular ways: deployments interrupt it, PCS orders restart it, and the parent who remembers the childhood may be at sea.
We accept TRICARE East and West. Because the appointment is by video, the process survives a change of base as long as you remain in a state where we are licensed — Texas, California, New York or New Jersey. If orders take you elsewhere, you still leave with the written report, so the next clinician is not starting from nothing.
Early appointments, Pacific time
Our clinicians work Central time, two hours ahead of San Diego, so the first appointments of the day are 6:00 AM Pacific and Saturday slots fall in the Pacific morning. For anyone on a duty schedule, a commute up the 5, or a job that starts early, that is usually the difference between attending and cancelling.
The limit, said plainly: our day ends at 3:00 PM Pacific. We do not run evening appointments in your time zone. If evenings are the only thing that works, we are not the right practice, and it is better to know before you book.
What the evaluation involves
A full history
A psychiatrist asks how attention, memory and impulsivity show up now, how far back the pattern runs, and what else could account for it.
Ruling things out
Sleep, mood, anxiety, head injury, substances and medical causes all imitate ADHD. A medical doctor can consider and exclude them.
A clear answer, in writing
You are told what this is and what it is not, and you keep the written report — for your records, a school, or another clinician.
Treatment if you want it
Medication is prescribed only when a diagnosis is made, it is clinically appropriate, and state and federal law permit it.
For San Diego parents
San Diego Unified, Poway, Chula Vista, Sweetwater and the county's other districts work through 504 plans and IEPs. Each wants documentation of the diagnosis and its functional impact at school, rather than a note naming a condition.
We ask for input from home and school both, because the pattern has to appear in more than one setting before a diagnosis can be made — and a report built on both is the one a district acts on.
ADHD in adults: the numbers
Adult ADHD is common and often identified long after school.
- 15.5 millionU.S. adults (6.0%) had a current ADHD diagnosis in 2023. CDC MMWR, 2024
- 55.9%of adults with current ADHD were first diagnosed at age 18 or older, not in childhood. CDC MMWR, 2024
- 11.7%of U.S. children aged 3–17 have a current ADHD diagnosis, so many adults recognize themselves once a child is evaluated. CDC
Figures verified September 2026. Statistics describe populations, not individuals — only an evaluation can say whether ADHD explains what you are experiencing.

San Diego ADHD evaluation FAQs
Do you accept TRICARE?
Yes, TRICARE East and West. Call (956) 266-8476 and our team will confirm how your plan applies before anything is booked.
My childhood school records are from Mexico. Is that a problem?
No. We are a border practice and this is routine for us. Bring what you have, in whichever language it is in, and we will work from it.
How early can I be seen?
Our clinicians work Central time, so the first appointments are 6:00 AM Pacific, and Saturday appointments run in the Pacific morning. We do not offer evening appointments in Pacific time.
What happens if we get PCS orders?
If you move to Texas, California, New York or New Jersey you can stay with the same clinician by video. If you move elsewhere, you leave with the written report so the next clinician is not starting over.
Do I have to be in California for the appointment?
Yes. You must be physically located in California at the time of the visit, because that is where the licence applies.
Can we be seen in Spanish?
Yes, as a matter of course rather than by special arrangement. Tell our team when you call.
Is there a waitlist?
No. Call (956) 266-8476 and our team will tell you what is available.
